The journey Summer of 2023 at TERI

This report will provide an overview of my experience at the summer internship

programme of 2023 named ‘LEAD’ organized by The Energy and Resources Institute

(TERI) for discussions on protecting the environment, challenge and need for renewable

energy and the requisite life skills to address such issues.

I could tell that this internship really aimed to enhance knowledge in young minds and

create awareness about sustainable practices, new energy sources, green buildings,

documentation, leadership skills and environmental conservation.

The key highlights of my journey through this internship along with the insights I gained

during my training in programme LEAD are as follows :

The Presentations by Experts and Guest Speakers were thoroughly enjoyable and

inspiring. It was as an academic bonanza packed with ‘back to back’ stars of their

fields who came to impart their knowledge in their specialized areas of expertise.

Some of the speakers introduced great content with pretty cool take -home

messages! My personal favourite was the lesson on sustainable development goals.

Overall, the talks were engaging and provided a comprehensive understanding of the

subject matter of wide variety.

The variations in world issues, survival skills, etc. that we were introduced to,

definitely sparked my interest in these areas of environment studies. I got to know so

much more about what's happening in the world, instead of living in my own tiny

cocooned sphere. My journey as a founder of a small voluntary organization

‘Harsevak” was well travelled with TERI talks helping me understand what to focus

on and identifying people who need my help most.

Interactive sessions- TERI made us feel so comfortable during the interactive

sessions where we could share our perspectives, ask questions and engage in group

discussions in a free non-judgemental environment. Interacting with my trainee

group helped me understand and learn about my peers' experiences and their

viewpoints on different aspects of life, our surrounding environment and the world.

Case Studies/ Videos- Real life case studies were also shown to us in the form of

videos and photos. These helped me visualize concepts and helped me retain their

take home messages and many other concepts taught during the program. In the near

future, these videos and talks have imprinted articulately in my mind to review

whenever I feel the need to. These case studies were not just memorable but also

highly inspiring since they highlighted the importance of taking a united stand as

individuals and in collaboration with communities to ‘do’ something about the issues

we know that exist around us and need our attention.

Project Assignments- We were assigned specific projects related to environmental

awareness and sustainable development. Assignments on designing environmental

friendly products, their advertisements (shampoo, toothbrush, soap), coral necklace

etc were super fun activities.

Researching for the core issues which we wanted to work on especially sustainable

lifestyle management and the LEAD project challenge, allowed me to learn about

the ‘Mission Life’ and other such government initiatives. Working on these projects

helped me grow my learning potential and knowledge about these issues. I

personally really enjoyed working on these projects a lot.

I used my design and presentation skills in decorating this work, making them

presentable according to my taste and that helped me boost my creativity and mood.

The entire LEAD team was so helpful in general and were always ready to enlighten

us with interesting facts. Everything was so well organized- from the introduction, to

the very end. Mentors were always there to clear up queries and they also assisted us

in making new friends.

It was amazing to know and have people who are my age group peers with similar

views and concerns. It was wonderful to discuss our viewpoints about the

environment and put together collective thoughts and methods with which we could

improve our world.

TERI gave us the opportunity to learn about each other and the programme helped us

understand and emphasized to each other that; together we can and must save our planet and

also our future!!

Cheers to more at TERI!!
